I have been tasked with writing a dynamic 24-hour medical roster for over 20 people. Difficulties include ensuring certain skills are present 24 hours a day, ensuring the hours worked are within strict limits and working patterns are followed regarding times off. There are also a number of shift types that need to be distributed equally. Taking into account individual preferences and limitations (either time or supervision level), along with departmental requirements for consistency (ie having continuity of care from the same person doing the same role for a number of days) this is challenging.
RosterLab has saved me countless hours and made this process manageable. In addition to meeting all criteria, it allows staff to select preferences (eg preferred shift patterns) and usually these are met. They have access to a login where they can add a variety of preferences and requests.
There are records of requests being met, the ability to sync to a calendar and a visually easy way of detecting concerning time periods with minimal staffing.
